I’m not going to lie. When I wrote the title of this post I wrote “January Favourites 2014” – I still can’t get used to the fact we are now in 2015! I’m secretly still even listening to Michael Buble Christmas carols and I have no shame to admit that.
Since the first month of the year is over, it’s time to do my favourites for the month. This month, I will be sharing my favourite things ranging from beauty products to my favourite guilty pleasures just for something a little different.
Let’s get started on the main attraction – my beauty favourites.
Too Faced Shadow Insurance Candlelight:
I have been in love with this eye shadow primer throughout month and have worn it literally everyday since I purchased it. I mentioned this product in a recent haul post, and I actually bought it because Ingrid Nilsen was using either this Too Faced primer or one very similar. Side note, how great is Ingrid?! She is definitely one of my favourite YouTubers. Anyway, this product is great for lazy days where you want to look polished but you really just can’t be bothered. This product is a gorgeous champagne colour with a hint of shimmer so it looks so pretty just by itself. However, if you are like me and normally wear eye shadow it keeps the lid crease-free all day long and without a doubt makes my eyes shadow last all day. My friends complimented me on my eye shadow the other day and asked if I had touched it up throughout the day because it looked like it had been freshly applied despite the fact it was the end of the day. I hadn’t touched it up of course, I was simply just wearing this primer underneath which helped prolong the Stila shadows I was wearing.
Lime Crime Velvetine in Pink Velvet:
This colour is not for the faint-hearted. It is the perfect statement lip that screams, “look at me” – literally. When I wear this colour people just stare because it is so bright and eye catching! I think it is so much fun to wear bright lip colours. This product was a favourite not only because of the colour, but because of its amazing formula. This is a ‘liquid lipstick’, so it is applied with a wand, and I find this makes application really simple. I find that using the wand makes it easier to create a smooth and even line. This stuff also literally does not budge when you wear it. It seriously does not come off when you eat, drink, lick your lips, or wipe it with make up remover. This is a good thing if you are wearing it all day or all night and you don’t want to worry about touching up your lipstick, however it makes removal a difficult process. My lips were quite sore by the time I eventually removed this product. Despite the removal process being a little difficult, this product is incredible. I think this is definitely a colour that Shannon Harris (shaaanxo) would wear.
Poni Cosmetics Brow Magic Brow Pencil:
I am normally a die-hard Anastasia Beverly Hills fan when it comes to brow products, however this month I decided to try something a little different. The clinic I go to for my facials and eyebrow waxes sells Poni Cosmetics, so I thought that I may as well give the brow pencil a whirl since I liked the look of it when it was tested on me. This pencil comes in only one shade for all hair colours. The idea is that you use different pressures to create different colours. So, blondes like myself use a light pressure and brunettes use greater pressure. I am not convinced this would suit all hair colours, but it is perfect for me. I love the fact that this shade is more on the taupe side of things as opposed to a warm colour. I always find that my eyebrows look very strawberry-blonde when I use brow products for ‘blondes’ because the colours are quite warm, and I like cool tones for my hair and skin colour. To use this product, you simply twist the tube and the pencil will come out. I like this packaging design because I don’t have to worry about sharpening the pencil all the time. The pencil also creates thin and precise lines each and every time I use it. I think that overall this product is amazing and I am planning on repurchasing it once I have used it up – sorry Anastasia.
Stila All Over Shimmer Duo in Kitten:
This product has been a favourite of mine for a long time now, however I found that I used it a lot during the month. It is perfect for creating a gorgeous glowing and bronzed look. There are two colours in this duo – a darker bronze shimmer as a blush or bronzer and a lighter shimmer designed for highlighting. I generally use the darker shade on my cheekbones and slightly extend to the apples of my cheeks for a slightly flushed, yet bronzed, look and I use the lighter shade on the top of my cheekbones, along my nose and any other places I want a little highlighter. This product is so pretty and instantly creates a fresh and awakened look. I don’t think there will ever be a day when I am not in love with this.
Oral-B 3D White Toothpaste:
Okay so this isn’t a ‘beauty’ product exactly and it is kind of odd that I am including toothpaste in my favourites, but hear me out. I think there is nothing more attractive and appealing than beautiful white teeth. We are constantly talking and (hopefully) smiling each and everyday, so I think having white teeth is very important. I am big on oral hygiene and I often annoy people by asking them if they floss and use a mouthwash every day – I’m a bit weird like that. There are a lot of companies out there that claim their toothpaste will whiten your teeth “up to 10 shades whiter”, however for me this toothpaste does this! I recently used the iWhite Teeth Whitening Kit that I featured in my recent haul post, and in conjunction with this toothpaste my teeth are honestly the whitest they have been. I receive so many compliments on how white my teeth are which makes me very happy. Just be careful though and don’t over do it on the teeth whitening – you don’t want to do a Ross Gellar from Friends!
Tresemme Keratin Smooth Flat Iron Smoothing Spray:
I wear my hair straight about 98% of the time, so I like to keep it sleek with certain products. I have been liking using this spray on my damp hair after I have washed it to keep it relatively frizz free and protected once I blow-dry and straighten it. I really like this product for the price, and I think it smells really fresh. Although I am loving it at the moment, I would like to try other smoothing sprays out there so I am not sure I would actually repurchase it.
Now, onto my favourite books of the month:
Looking For Alibrandi:
This is an Australian classic. Melina Marchetta (my favourite author of all time), tells the story of Josie Alibrandi, an illegitimate Italian girl living in Sydney who is in her final year of high school. I have read this book so many times I have lost count. I revisited it this month and just love it as much as the first time I read it. If you ever get the chance to read it, please do. The story is written in first person and you can really resonate with Josie and her situations – particularly when it comes to bullies and unrequited love. Sigh.
Shine by Samantha Armytage:
Samantha Armytage is the co-host of a popular morning television show in Australia called Sunrise. Samantha gives advice on ‘how to make the most of your life without losing yourself’, and tells tales of what she has learnt from her life experiences so far. I like this book because it feels like Sam is a big sister or Aunt telling you stories and how you can learn from your mistakes. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I picked up some really helpful advice from her!
A lifestyle favourite:
My Kikki.K 2015 Diary:
I love my Kikki.K diary and would not be able to function without it! Each page is a new day with times listed on the side, so it makes planning so simple. It comes with cute stickers and each week has a new design on the side of the page which is always colourful, cute and fun.
My favourite guilty pleasure:
I’m just about to enter my 20s and I still watch Barbie movies, but do I really care? Not really. They are so cute and amusing and I just really enjoy watching them – I’m so not ashamed to tell people this! For Christmas, I received a Barbie movie box set from my parents and to tell you the truth it was my favourite present. It contained around 12 movies I believe, and I have watched them all now, so today I purchased another one that wasn’t in the box set.
My favourite tracks:
In no particular order:
– Enchanted – Taylor Swift
I think we’ve all been here before. You’ve just met someone very ‘enchanting’ that left you totally ‘wonderstruck’, but there is something stopping you from falling head over heels. What if they already have a partner they are in love with?!
– Uptown Funk – Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars
This is such a catchy feel-good song. As if you don’t want to get up and dance every time it comes on!
– West Coast – James Vincent McMorrow
This version is a cover of Lana Del Rey’s West Coast. I like this version since it is such an easy listen, and is kind of sultry.
– Wildest Dreams – Taylor Swift
She just wants you to remember her when you leave, is that too much to ask? ‘Red lips and rosy cheeks, say you’ll see me again even if it’s just in your wildest dreams’ – I always think of myself standing there with my Nars Dragon Girl on with my non-existent boyfriend when I hear that line.
So, there you have my favourite things of the month! I hope you enjoyed this post with all my other random favourites included for something a little different. Let me know what you thought.
