Estee Lauder Double Wear – Hit Or Miss?

I heard so much hype about how amazing the Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation is, so when I was in Singapore five months ago I decided to finally purchase it.

I’m going to cut to the chase here – I don’t think this foundation is all it is cracked up to be. In other words, for my international friends, in my opinion I don’t think this is worth the hype at all.

I purchased this foundation in the shade 2W0 Warm Vanilla, which was fine. The colour seemed to be a relatively good match for me when I wear fake tan – which is almost every day.

So, the colour of the product was well and good, but that is where it ends for me in terms of positive aspects of the product. I generally always apply two thin layers of foundation to my face, however I found that this product ‘set’ to a kind of powdery matte finish and so I could not build up coverage. Whenever I did try to dab some more product here and there, the foundation would separate. So, I could only ever apply one layer of this product and I always found that it would accentuate my pores that are never visible with other foundations.

I cannot stand how this product feels on my skin. I like my make up to feel like I am not wearing any, and this foundation felt like I had a thick mask on my face. Once I set it with a little bit of powder, my skin felt so dry and tight. I tried two different setting powders that I regularly use over other foundations, and my skin felt the same with both powders. This dry and tight feeling has never happened to me with any other liquid foundation, no matter how much powder I may have worn to set it.

I found that this foundation lasted no better than any other foundation I wear. My Nars Sheer Glow foundation, for example looks and feels so much better at the end of the day compared to the Estee Lauder Double Wear.

For five months now I have tried different methods of application, worn different primers, not worn primers, and tried various setting powders and I still cannot find a way to like this foundation. I am very disappointed with this product.

I would love to hear about whether you have had a positive or negative experience with the Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation, so please comment your thoughts below!

  1. I have the Double Wear foundation but I only use it for special occasions! It really is full proof and dries really fast but I agree, it’s really cakey if you apply too much or try to layer it on! Definitely not for everyday! 🙂 It’s perfect for night outs and proms etc though!

    1. I do agree that it is too much for everyday wear! However this product just didn’t go well on my skin 😦 thanks for reading! xx

      1. I used to wear it everyday but then I realised it was too full coverage and my skin was reacting to it! :O What tools did you use to apply it? I used to just use my fingers LOL but I’d have to apply it straight after moisturising though otherwise it’d be too cakey.

  2. Great and honest review! I was tempted to get it the other day, but I think I’ll stick with tinted moisturisers for now. Thank you for this amazingly useful review xx

    1. No problem at all, I’m happy you found it useful! 🙂 I definitely don’t think the foundation is worth it at all. Thanks for reading! xx
