The SPF Factor

If you don’t wear sunscreen daily, shame on you. No, really. It is super important to wear sunscreen each and every day to protect your beautiful skin!

Recently, my dad had several cancers cut out and burnt off because he spent too much time in the sun without wearing any sunscreen. I also lost my nana to skin cancer some years ago now, so my days of sunbaking without SPF are well and truly over.

Our skin is our largest organ so we should be doing all we can to protect it. Sure a lovely, deep tan looks great now but you are going to end up looking like an old leather bag when you are older or even worse, you will end up with skin cancer. Great fake tans exist, and I have written several posts on what I think are the best fake tans if you really want that bronzed glow.

I have several favourite sunscreens that I wear all over my face, neck and chest daily. You should always aim to wear sunscreen that contains at least SPF 30, or preferably higher. Do not ever rely on just your foundation to provide you with sun protection because the sun’s rays are so strong that they just shoot right through the layers of foundation you may be wearing. Also, the SPF found in moisturisers is not normally enough protection. It is always best to follow with another sunscreen over the top of any moisturiser containing SPF.

Some of my favourite sunscreens are:

  1. Jbronze Daily Beauty Balm SPF 50
  2. La Roche-Posay Uvidea XL SPF 50
  3. Ella Bache Great Facesaver SPF 30
  4. Invisible Zinc Tinted Daywear SPF 30
  5. La Roche-Posay Uvidea XL Melt in BB Cream SPF 50

The above sunscreens are my favourites because they are lightweight, don’t break me out and are not greasy like the old sunscreens you may be imagining. If I had to choose my all-time favourite sun products however, I would without a doubt pick both of the La Roche-Posay sunscreens. You just can’t beat French pharmacy.

I hope that you think twice about skipping the sunscreen next time,

G xx

  1. Great review! Sorry to hear about you nan & hope your dad is fine. Same with my dad but thankfully it wasn’t serious and just a matter of burning them off. I admit I hardly ever wear sunscreen as my foundation contains spf which I know isn’t enough for my fair skin. I need to get in the habit of applying daily even if im indoors most of the day!

    1. Thank you! Yes I believe that’s the same with my dad as well, nothing too serious. It’s good to get into the habit anyway just to protect your lovely skin! 🙂 thanks for reading x
