Zap The Zit!

My skin didn’t appreciate all the chocolate and hot cross buns I ate over the Easter long weekend, so unfortunately I am in the midst of a breakout.

When my skin becomes a little cranky there are certain products that I always reach for to help clear the congestion. I am not a skincare expert but I thought I would share some products that help me in troubled times:

  1. Tea Tree Oil

I love some good ol’ tea tree oil. It is natural and affordable and clears up a blemish quickly. I simply pour some oil on a q-tip and rub it over my problem areas. Just be careful if you have sensitive skin though, as tea tree oil can burn sensitive skin.

  1. Dermalogica Clear Start Day and Night Treatments

This range is targeted at young acne-prone skin, but I sometimes use it when I have a breakout because it is so gentle yet effective. It contains ingredients like salicylic acid, tea tree oil and lavender to help dig down and clear the pores. Because my skin is also dry (I honestly have the most annoying skin type), I use another moisturiser over the top of the treatments to prevent any moisture loss. If you have normal-oily skin however, these products would be fine on their own.

  1. Lush Tea Tree Water Toner

This is a lovely mist that contains a mild amount of tea tree oil to help clear the skin. I find it is best used straight after you have cleansed your face and before applying moisturiser or other serums and treatments.

  1. Epiduo

This bad boy only comes out if I have an absolutely out of control breakout that nothing else has been able to clear up. You can only purchase this product with a prescription from a doctor because it is for severe acne (I used to have very unfortunate skin). If your breakouts are that severe, a trip to your doctor won’t hurt. Together you can assess the situation and find out what measures can be taken to help clear your skin. This product is quite harsh and can definitely burn the skin if you apply too much.

  1. Ella Bache Detox Aromatique Serum

This product is a lovely light serum that soaks in quickly to clear the pores. This product is apart of the Aromatique range and I enjoyed the matching moisturiser, however I felt as though it was the serum that made the most difference to my skin. This product is great for sensitive skin as it isn’t too harsh.

  1. Lush Mask of Magnaminty

This is my favourite face mask at the moment and I wrote a recent post all about it. I find it immediately calms down any redness and blemishes, so I always pop it on in a crisis. It smells quite strongly of peppermint and is very tingly, so if you don’t appreciate the scent of peppermint you may not enjoy this product too much.

I obviously don’t use each of the above products at the same time. I simply pick out what products I think my skin needs on that particular occasion. My skin likes to be dramatic so some days it is very sensitive and other times very dry, which means I will have to be careful with what acne product I use.

What are your favourite blemish busting products?
