I am completely obsessed with tinted moisturisers and BB Creams. I love the way they feel and the way they make the skin look so polished, yet natural.
I had heard a lot about the Hourglass Illusion Tinted Moisturiser and it had been on my wishlist for quite some time. Lucky for me, my amazing Mum bought it for me as a gift (thank you Mumma!).
I have this product in the shade Ivory, which is the second lightest shade I believe. I used to wear dark fake tans and therefore I would buy bases in dark shades to match my tan – but these days I am opting for more of a natural look so I now only wear a light coat of tan. I am liking being a bit paler to be honest.
The first thing I noticed when I pumped some of the product onto my hand was that it looked quite thick and mousse-like – ‘fluffy’ even. I applied the product with my Real Techniques Expert Face brush similarly to how I apply my other bases. In terms of consistency I would say that this product is one of the thicker tinted moisturisers I have tried, however it doesn’t feel thick or sticky on the skin. This product also provides quite a lot of coverage for a tinted moisturiser. I think it gives the coverage of a light/medium foundation as opposed to a standard tinted moisturiser. Coverage is also buildable, so you can apply a light layer and let a few freckles shine through or you can certainly build up more of a medium-coverage look. If my skin is looking pretty clear I will just apply one light coat and set my face with some powder or alternatively if I have a few spots I will apply two layers of the tinted moisturiser then some powder.
This product gives quite a luminous, dewy finish. Although my skin isn’t oily at the moment, I find I can get a bit shiny throughout the day when I wear this product. I have to blot my face several times a day, which is irritating because generally speaking I never blot my face or touch up my make up during the day – I just don’t have time for that. These days I have really stripped back on my skincare routine, so during the day I now skip the moisturiser and just apply sunscreen to my face. I find that when I wore moisturiser and sunscreen my skin got super oily with this product, but since starting to just wear sunscreen under the tinted moisturiser I don’t get as shiny. What I am impressed with though is when I blot my face the product itself doesn’t transfer off, so you still have your coverage after patting your face down with a tissue.
So far I am enjoying using this product. Hourglass doesn’t test on animals and their products don’t contain parabens, which is always a bonus. I love the way this product feels on the skin and the initial dewy look the product gives. The only downside is that I can get shiny during the day, but this doesn’t bother me that much and I can live with the need for an occasional blot.
