Is Your Pillowcase Harming Your Skin?

Skincare is something I am very passionate and serious about. I have no hesitation in spending my hard earned cash on expensive skincare products. As I always say invest in your skincare and makeup can come after. Our skin is our largest organ and so we should take great care of it! Even though I take good care of my skin I was blessed with lovely acne prone skin. Acne is a massive part of my life and is hard for me to get under control sometimes. Nonetheless, a good skincare routine, making healthy food choices, drinking water and taking vitamins can help support my skin.

Recently, I started noticing just how red and inflamed my skin looks as soon as I wake up. It just looks plain angry and sometimes I have imprints from my pillowcase on my cheeks. Because of this, I decided to make the switch to using a silk pillowcase. Why sleep on a silk pillowcase you may ask. Well, I don’t mean to scare you but the pillowcase you’re sleeping on every night is quite possibly causing your skin to age and become inflamed.

The cotton pillowcases that most of the population sleeps on actually causes damage to not only your skin but also your hair – hence why we sometimes wake up with frizzy, straw-like hair. Cotton pulls and scratches at the delicate skin on our face and we can’t afford that to happen because the skin on our face is the thickness of a sheet of paper! Even worse, the skin around our eye area is the thickness of a piece of tissue paper. As we sleep our skin repairs itself, and I don’t know about you but I don’t want to be sleeping on a pillowcase that is irritating my skin while this process is trying to occur. To make matters worse, cotton absorbs all of the moisture in the skin. So all the money you’re spending on hydrating serums and creams may possibly be going down the drain.

When I sleep on a silk pillowcase my skin looks way less angry in the morning and my hair is super smooth and sleek. The benefits of a silk pillowcase definitely have to be seen to believe and I think they are more of an essential item as opposed to a luxury. If you are serious about skincare and hair care then I strongly recommend purchasing a silk pillowcase – I am certain you won’t look back! There are loads of different brands that offer silk pillowcases, but I purchased mine from Mecca Cosmetica. If you want to check out different silk pillowcase options, check out the links below.
