A Closer Look at Highlighters

By now y’all know I love the glow. With an array of different highlighters and formulas out there it can make life more confusing than it should be. So, what type of highlighter should you go for?

Powder

These are great if you have oily skin or use a powder base. Powder highlighters are generally more pigmented and guaranteed to give you that ‘on point’ look.

Products: Becca x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Pop Shimmering Skin Perfector, MAC Soft and Gentle Highlighter, Hourglass Ambient Lighting Strobe Powders.

Liquid

Liquids are great for mixing in with your base or for patting on the high points of your face for a subtle highlight. These can only be placed on top of a liquid/cream foundation as they will cause a bit of separation if used over a powder. I often use a liquid underneath a powder highlighter if I am going for a very dewy look.

Products: The Base by Lara Bingle Illuminator, Chantecaille Liquid Lumiere, Josie Maran Argan Illuminator.

Cream

A cream is beautiful on dry skin and from experience are slightly more pigmented than a liquid. Creams come in a little pot and are best applied with your fingertips. Just like liquid highlighters, a cream should only be applied on top of your liquid/cream base.

Products: RMS Living Luminizer and Magic Luminizer, Mecca Cosmetica Enlightenment Balm, Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured Creme.
