Elle Effect Self Tan Review

Australian digital entrepreneur Elle Ferguson is the ultimate cool-girl. The TheyAllHateUs blogger is not only talented – she has awesome style, never-ending blonde locks and the ultimate golden tan. When Elle created her own tan line Elle Effect, I had no doubt that it would be exceptional and was a desperado to try it. You know that saying ‘you only want what you can’t have?’ well, Elle Effect sold out almost instantly upon the first few product drops which meant it took me a while to get my hands on it. Obviously, as a beauty junkie this only made me want the tan more. So, just how well did the tan stack up against other fantastic ones I have tried?

Picking Your Signature Scent | How To

Scent is such a powerful thing. I love fragrances because they have the ability to encapsulate a moment in time. A memory. An emotion. Just one whiff of a fragrance can teleport you to years gone by and paint the most vivid image in your mind; perhaps even remind you of somebody.

Picking your signature fragrance can be time consuming, costly and overwhelming. My guide below will hopefully help you in pinpointing your signature fragrance.

Hourglass Vanish Stick Foundation Review

You know those people who have a naturally beautiful, clear and smooth complexion? I’m not exactly one of them, which means I am always looking for products that will make me look like I’ve got good skin. I have tried most foundations out there and was extremely excited when Hourglass launched their new Vanish Stick Foundation a couple of months back. I was itching to try this product as I am a huge Hourglass fan, so what did I do as soon as it launched? If you guessed ‘putting off purchasing it for months in fear you’d hate it’ then you are correct my friend.

Making It To First Base | The LB Cream

As you all know, last week I received my order from Lara Bingle’s new tanning range called ‘The Base’ – *cue the falling confetti and glitter out of the sky*.

When I wrote a post expressing my excitement, I said that I would be reviewing each product individually after I have used them a couple of times. So, here I am with my first review on a ‘The Base’ product – the one and only LB Cream.

Initially, I was unsure whether to purchase this product or not simply because I love my Jane Iredale BB Cream a little too much. I had put some other products in the item cart and was just about to go to the checkout when suddenly I was possessed to add in the LB Cream.

The LB Cream is basically a BB Cream with the letters changed to suit Lara Bingle’s initials. I think that this adds a cute little touch to the product.

The website description of this product reads:

“Transform your skin with The Base by Lara Bingle’s signature LB Cream. Luminous and smooth in texture, this intensely hydrating cream is designed to even skin tone and mask imperfections. The LB Cream can be used on its own, as an all day skin tinted SPF moisturiser. Coverage can be built up with fingers or a brush, or a sheer layer can simply be applied to the face for a natural, healthy looking glow. Note – Honey is the darker shade.

  • All Day Skin Primer with SPF15
  • Moisturises
  • Balances skin tone
  • Even coverage”

This product is available in two shades – Beige and Honey and sells for $24AUD. As mentioned above, Honey is the darker shade so I purchased Beige. I predicted it would be a little darker than my natural white-as-a-ghost skin colour, however I always wear fake tan so I knew I could easily match the colour of the Cream to the rest of my body.

This product is a relatively medium consistency – not too thick, but not watery either. For me, it is an ideal consistency to work with. Because of this consistency, you can wear a very thin layer of product or you can definitely build it up with more layers.

So, each time I wear this product I basically treat it as my daily ‘foundation’ in terms of application and coverage. I apply it with my Real Techniques Expert Face Brush as I do with my regular BB Creams, tinted moisturizers, foundations etc.

I have worn this product everyday for six days now, and I have tried it out in three different ways. I wanted to try using this product in three different ways to test out the different looks that this product could create:

  1. By itself

I wanted to test the product’s finish, look and lasting power without any concealer or setting powder. Here is what I discovered:

  • The LB Cream gives an amazing luminous finish.
  • The skin has a very healthy glow.
  • It has more coverage than I expected, which is a good thing for me as I have some scarring on my face.
  • My skin was not oily by the end of the day and only became oily after I went to the gym and sweated like a pig.
  • Despite the fact that I went to the gym and sweated like a pig, the Cream actually stayed on and didn’t just dissolve into thin air.
  • Simply on its own, the LB Cream leaves the skin looking and feeling absolutely amazing and stays looking fresh all day long.
  1. With concealer and a light illuminating powder

The next time I used my LB Cream I covered up any scars that were still visible and I dusted a light coat of my Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder over the top:

  • My Nars Creamy Concealer blended so easily and smoothly over the LB Cream.
  • The concealer didn’t separate from the product.
  • The LB Cream looked absolutely incredible with an illuminating powder over the top.
  • Again, by the end of the day my face stayed looking so dewy and fresh as opposed to being an oily mess.
  1. With concealer and a full coverage powder to set

Lastly, I used the LB Cream in replace of my Jane Iredale BB Cream that I normally wear daily, with my full coverage Jane Iredale Pressed Powder Foundation over the top:

  • Although this look had a fuller coverage, my skin still looked quite natural.
  • I honestly prefer the look that the LB Cream creates underneath the powder foundation over the look I get from using my Jane Iredale BB Cream.
  • I used to find that by the end of the day, the products on my face would sometimes begin to separate and my pores would become visible (who needs that?). The LB Cream has so far not separated on me at all and it honestly still looks flawless at the end of the day each time I wear it. This product lasted through a hectic 11 hour day of University, so for me, it is a winner.

Overall, I highly recommend the new LB Cream to anyone. Not only does it look flawless on the skin, it also feels light and as if you aren’t even wearing make up. My Dad even commented on how great my skin looks when I wear it, and he never notices anything (bless him). I am in love with this product and I honestly can’t fault the formula. It is also really reasonably priced! The only thing that may be disappointing for some people is the limited colour choices on offer. In saying that, Lara recently said ‘The Base’ is planning on releasing more colour choices in the near future. I will definitely continue wearing this product as my everyday ‘foundation’. Even though it is a relatively light BB Cream (or should I say LB Cream), I can easily build up the coverage by layering the product, adding a bit of concealer here and there and dusting a powder foundation over the top if need be.

All About ‘The Base’

All About ‘The Base’

Today, I received my ‘The Base’ by Lara Bingle products in the mail and I could not have been more excited!

Last year, Australian model Lara Bingle announced that she would be launching her own faux tanning range.

I jumped up and down when I heard this news because:

1. I think Lara is a golden goddess and she is one of my beauty icons

2. I am a religious self-tanner and am always on the hunt for amazing tans

This brand focuses on protecting your skin from the sun as much as possible and resorting to faux tanning if you want to achieve a bronzed look in hope to minimise skin cancers. ‘The Base’ also emphasises the importance of enhancing your inner beauty and creating self confidence by perfecting your ‘base’.

So, last weekend when I woke up at 3am in agony (I had tonsillitis) and couldn’t get back to sleep, I decided to do a bit of online shopping and order a couple of products from ‘The Base’. The products are sold exclusively via the company’s website.

There were three products in particular that I was very interested to try out and decided to purchase:
– The instant tan mousse
– The LB Cream with SPF15 in Beige
– The gradual tanning lotion

I thought that the packaging the products arrive in is so sleek and sexy. The packaging is simple and minimalist, yet I think it is very effective in creating an up-market feel about these products.

I am planning on using some of the products tomorrow, and I will review each product individually and in depth.

Have you tried out any products from Lara’s new range?

Priceline & Mecca Maxima Haul: Nars, Teeth Whitening & More!

Priceline & Mecca Maxima Haul: Nars, Teeth Whitening & More!

Who doesn’t love a good haul? I am personally a bit of a haul-lurker. I love seeing what people buy!

Recently, I picked up a couple of things from my two favourite stores ever: Priceline and Mecca Maxima. Some products that I got are just essential and personal items, and others are more on the splurge side of things.

I got the majority of these products from Priceline, so I will start there first:

PureTan Pure Bronze Tanning Lotion in Dark: Because we all know I am a tanning addict. I haven’t tried this brand before so I am excited to see the results. I have heard only great things about this brand, and if Australian eyebrow royalty Amy Jean raves about PureTan, it must be good.

Nads Brazilian Hard Wax: I taught myself to do my own Brazilian/bikini wax several years ago. Yes, it is painful however I prefer to be smooth and ergh, ‘maintained’.

Iluka by Natalie Imbruglia Light Day Cream with SPF: I mentioned this cream in my recent updated skincare routine post, and so far I am loving it!

iWhite Instant Teeth Whitening Kit: I like to whiten my teeth from time to time because I feel more confident when my teeth sparkle. Recently I noticed my teeth were looking dull, so I purchased the iWhite kit for a little pick-me-up. I chose this kit in particular because Chloe Morello used it and raved about her results.

Schick Intuition Razor Blades: Just another essential item I picked up. I use these for my legs, because I am too impatient waiting for the hairs on my legs to grow so that I can wax them.

And from Mecca Maxima I got:

Too Faced Shadow Insurance Candlelight: I normally use my MAC Paint Pot as my primer, however I remembered watching one of Ingrid Nilsen’s videos where she used a Too Faced eye primer. I am not 100% sure this is the exact one she used, although it seemed to be quite similar to the primer she used. This primer is a champagne colour that has some shimmer in it, and is the perfect ‘lazy product’. If you don’t feel like putting any eyeshadow on, this primer will suffice because the colour and shimmer look gorgeous on its own.

Nars Lipgloss in Rose Gitane: I am not normally into glosses, particularly red glosses, however I was very attracted to this product for some reason. This is a gorgeous deep red shade that contains a hint of sparkle. It looks amazing on its own, and I can imagine it would look even better over a lipstick if you were after a more dramatic effect.

So that was all I picked up from my recent haul Priceline and Mecca Maxima haul! Have you ever used any of these products?
